Comedy anyone?
On Wednesday night i strolled down to Loop Bar on Meyers st in the city and caught this show. Hayley Fox and Sean Ryan, two local Melbourne comedians have put together an hilarious act to showcase and contrast each of their considerably individual styles of comedy. Sean, whom i have seen perform once before has come a long way very quickly in his stand up career and is really worth seeing live any chance you get. In the last act the two take stage together performing witty back and forth banter that left me in stitches.
The Melbourne international comedy festival is one of the biggest events of the year, hosting hundreds of big name acts from all over the world. In my experience however it is the little acts in the bars you've never heard of that stand out the most and make the festival such a success.
If you keen to catch some comedy while your in Melbourne, "one of these things is not like the other" is one show to keep in mind.

Cheeky wine tasting?
This Wednesday and the first Wednesday of every month there is a wine tasting night down at federation square on Flinders st. It's been a bit of a hit in the past so we thought we would head down and see what we can see.
Now, a wine tasting might sound like a bit of a fancy/pricey night out in the city but remember this is a surf club so with a little translation "wine tasting" very quickly become "all you can drink for $25."
It starts at 4:30 in the arvo and finishes up around 8:30 pm. Look forward to seeing you all there!
cheers, Pat.
Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach 2011
The famous bells beach is set to host the best 34 surfers in the world as they battle it out for world title rankings for the 50th time this year starting april 19, making the Rip Curl Pro the longest running tour event ever! There are a few of us already planning to head down to see some of the action in the water so we thought we would put a shout out to any surfer boys and girls keen to be there to witness the next big event on the world tour calendar?
All the event info is available at ripcurl.com.au
V/line trains and buses can get you to the event and entry is $8 per day ($5 for concession) parking is $2 or you can get a $25 pass for the whole event (worth it if you want to stay for the finals!)
if history is anything to go by bring some warm clothes as easter at bells can get pretty chilly!
drop some comments on the page below or on Facebook and if there is enough interest we might even be able to organise a bus to the event.
cheers, pat.

Bancoora camp!
Bancoora beach will play host to the next big surf camp of the year from the 15th-17th of april. This is always a big camp with bancoora being pretty much in the middle of no where its pretty hard to get noise complaints. it a beautiful part of the world so lets get geared up for a mighty weekend of surfing and partying with the great group of new surfers we have in the club this year!
The camp will cost $100 which covers accommodation, dinner Friday and Saturday night, alcohol and surf equipment! there will be another chance to sign up this wednesday the 6th of april for those who couldn't make it last week. and if your keen there is a wine tasting in the city we might swing buy that night.
FOR THOSE OF YOU ALREADY SIGNED UP.
We are expecting more campers than there are beds at the Bancoora life saving club so we suggest that you find a buddy you dont mind sharing with, bring a mattress to throw on the floor or simply make a nest of leaves and twigs in the sand dunes. Its also a good idea to swing by the supermarket and stock up on breakfast and lunch items for the weekend as there is only one general store close to the camp and it is very expensive.
Keep checking back to this site from time to time for news and updates on events happening around the traps, and just another quick shout out for everyone to email any photos from camps and other shenanigans to rmitsurfclub@gmail.com and we will get them online very soon.
cheers everyone, see you on the beach,
pat.

What a rad weekend!
Lorne played host to first RMIT surf club camp of 2011 and did so with great success, the weather held out for us and sunday was what we all dream of, heaps of waves and heaps more beers shared by new and not so new found friends with the sun shining down on the sand. It seemed like everyone across the board had a rad weekend in Lorne!
Id like to take the opportunity to thank the committee members for all their hard work and tireless effort that made the camp such a success, and another thank you to all the campers who join us down the beach you guys really make this club fun!
Dont forget this wednesday night(23rd or march) 8pm at spleen bar we are heading down for catch ups, debriefs and general shenanigans.
This site will soon host a photo board to showcase some of the general random behaviour that the surf club is becoming known so fondly for. if you have any photos from the weekend of any surf club events please email them to rmitsurfclub@gmail.com (funny captions are always good too).
We are off to Bancoora for the next camp on the 15th of april so pencil it into your calendars and check back soon for more details!
cheers, Pat.
Welcome to surf club 2011!
It has been a busy start to the year for the RMIT surf club, the committee has been running around getting things ready and with over 100 members already signed up it looks like 2011 is going to be a big year. The roundabout party was an epic night and if you missed it im sure you will be hearing the stories for a long time to come. It was great to meet a few of the new crew down at the sign up BBQ the other day, the turn out was great so thanks to everyone who came down. If you missed out on Tuesday there are still a few spots left and you will have another chance on Tuesday the 15th to come get involved.
The first big camp of the year is coming up really fast! If your not already aware we are off to Loren on the great ocean road for a weekend of relaxing fun, Surfing and excessive drinking! if you havnt been before lorne is a beautiful place and a really good beach to learn to surf with nearby breaks to cater to pretty much everyones surfing abilities. The first camp of the year is a big one, for many people its their first time surfing in Australia and sometimes even the first glimps of the victorian coastline, in the past it has been great to see friendships and in some cases even relationships develop through the club events and we are sure that this year will be no exception.
We are still shouting out to anyone with a car who is happy to help out with the car pooling to get everyone there, contact any of the committee members through the rmit facebook page or email to volunteer!
Cheers, Pat.
